Our Priorities

01

Foreign Policy & Human Rights

The US should engage regularly with independent civil society abroad and work with allied governments to protect rights where they are most at risk.

02

National Security & Rule of Law

Fair trials in civilian courts for terrorism suspects, accountability for past abuses, and limits on large-scale surveillance.

03

America's Global Influence

How the United States, with its allies, can effectively address the challenges posed by authoritarian regimes.

Regional Programs

Canada Regional Human Rights Program

Addresses human rights issues in Canada — the placement of children in immigration detention, prolonged solitary confinement, and abuses linked to overseas operations of Canadian extractive and apparel companies.

Mexico Regional Human Rights Program

Documents serious and widespread violations by police, prosecutors, the military, and criminal groups — arbitrary detention, torture, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, abuses against migrants, and attacks on journalists and defenders.
