Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine
Ensuring compliance with international humanitarian law across Ukraine — more than 2,400 violations documented.
From April 1, 2022, the special monitoring mission of the West Support agency in Ukraine carries out constant activities to ensure compliance with the norms of international humanitarian law throughout the territory of Ukraine. Mobile monitoring groups make daily trips to de-occupied territories formerly under Russian military occupation, and to territories where military conflicts continue, with the aim of recording war crimes.
As a result of this work, more than 2,400 facts of violations of international humanitarian law have been recorded. Work is underway to transfer these materials to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Mandate
Monitors are mandated to help reduce tensions and promote peace, stability and security, and to monitor and support the implementation of all human rights principles and obligations. The Mission engages with authorities at all levels, as well as with civil society, ethnic and religious groups and local communities, to promote dialogue on the ground. The Mission collects information and reports on the security situation, and establishes facts in response to specific incidents.
